How to Wash GenuTrain: Tips & Tricks

Bauerfeind GenuTrain: Washing & Product Care

The GenuTrain knee brace by Bauerfeind is our most popular product. It is made in a soft, breathable 3D knit for optimal comfort. Proper washing and air-drying of your Bauerfeind GenuTrain prolongs its life and allows it to maintain its original fit. If you notice your GenuTrain starting to slip down, it’s time for a wash. Read on for detailed cleaning tips.

Should I handwash or machine wash my GenuTrain?

For best results, hand washing is recommended to ensure the longevity of your Bauerfeind knee brace.  The sewn-in label of the brace includes washing symbols as well as the product name, size, manufacturer and CE mark.

Tip: Never turn your GenuTrain inside out – it will damage the support over time.

Can the GenuTrain be put in the dryer?

No, the GenuTrain knee brace should not be put in the dryer. Leave the knee brace to air dry on a flat surface away from any heat sources, such as dryers or radiators.

Caution: Heat can damage the elastic fibers and cause delamination of brace components.

Hand Washing Instructions:

Time needed (not including drying time): 15 minutes

Regularly washing your Bauerfeind GenuTrain by hand helps maintain its elasticity and original fit. Follow these steps:

  1. Prepare Water & Detergent

Fill a sink, tub, or basin with warm water (30°C) and add a small amount of mild liquid detergent. Avoid detergents with bleach, stain removers, optical brighteners, or fabric softeners.

  2. Soak

Submerge the brace in soapy water and let sit for 10 minutes.

  3. Gently Wash

Carefully wash the brace by moving it with your hands and gently kneading the material to remove dirt and debris.
Tip: If your GenuTrain contains a silicone non-slip band, use a soft cloth to gently wipe the silicone to remove any dead skin cells.

  4. Rinse

Rinse the brace several times with water and gently squeeze to remove soap. Do not wring out the brace.

  5. Remove water

Press out excess water by placing the GenuTrain between two towels. Do not wring the brace.

  6. Dry

Leave the brace to dry on a flat surface away from heat sources. Heat can damage the knitted fabric and cause delamination.

Washing Machine Instructions:

  1. Prepare: Wash the brace separately from other clothes and place it inside a mesh delicate bag.
  2. Detergent: Use mild liquid laundry detergent with no additives. Avoid detergents with bleach, stain removers, optical brighteners, or fabric softeners.
  3. Wash: Machine wash at 30 °C on the gentle or delicate cycle.  The spin cycle should not exceed 500 revolutions per minute to prevent damage.
  4. Dry: Air dry the brace on a flat surface away from heat sources. Heat can damage the knitted fabric and cause delamination.

Conclusion

Proper washing and drying will help your knit support maintain its elasticity and original fit. By following these steps, you can ensure that your brace stays in top condition, providing you with the support you need.
