Direct Billing With GreenShield Canada

At Feet And Up, we are pleased to offer direct billing for eligible GreenShield Canada policies.
Direct billing GreenShield Canada means we submit your claim directly to the insurance provider on your behalf. Depending on your coverage, your GreenShield may pay all or part of the cost of your Bauerfeind brace or medical compression stockings.
We also offer direct billing services to other eligible insurance providers and policies, such as WSIB, ODSP, RBC Insurance and SSQ Insurance (Beneva).
We help customers across Markham and the Greater Toronto Area access Bauerfeind medical products with less paperwork and less stress.
What Is Direct Billing?
Direct billing, sometimes called Assignment of Benefits, allows us to send your claim directly to GreenShield Canada.
If your plan allows it:
- We bill your insurance plan directly, and GreenShield will send payment to us.
- You only pay any remaining balance that is not covered by your plan.
- If your product is fully covered, no payment may be required from you.
If direct billing is not available for your plan:
- You pay at the time of purchase
- You submit the claim to your insurance company for reimbursement
How the Direct Billing Process Works

Here is how direct billing works at Feet And Up:
Step 1: Visit your physician
If you have pain, swelling, an injury, or another medical condition, a medical doctor should be your first point of contact.
Your doctor can assess your condition and determine the most appropriate treatment. Depending on your needs, ask your doctor if they recommend purchasing a medical product (like a brace, or compression sock).
Step 2: Get a prescription
If your physician recommends a brace or medical compression stockings, ask for a prescription. Most insurance policies require a prescription from your doctor in order to approve your claim.
A prescription should include:
- your medical condition (for example, ankle sprain or knee osteoarthritis)
- the affected body part, including the side if applicable (ie, left, right, or both)
- the recommended product type (for example, knee brace)
- for compression stockings, your doctor will need to specify the compression level (for example, 20-30mmHg)
Step 3: Assessment and product selection
Schedule a consultation appointment at Feet And Up and we’ll discuss your condition and lifestyle. We’ll help you choose the right Bauerfeind product for your needs.
Step 4: Insurance eligibility check
We confirm whether your insurance plan allows direct billing, and whether you are required to pay a deductible. Most GreenShield policies allow us to check eligibility immediately, but we will let you know if your policy requires manual processing.
Step 5: Claim submission and payment
When you are ready to proceed and take your product, we submit the claim directly to your insurance provider:
- If approved: insurance pays us directly
- If partially approved: you pay only the remaining balance

What Products Are Covered?
Insurance coverage depends on your policy and medical needs.
Most of the Bauerfeind medical products we provide are approved medical devices. Common covered items include:
- compression socks and medical compression stockings
- knee braces (example, Bauerfeind GenuTrain)
- ankle braces
- back braces
- other orthopedic braces for injury recovery or chronic conditions
Coverage usually requires a medical reason or condition that requires use of the product, such as previous injury, or chronic conditions.
Insurance Providers We Work With
Feet And Up offers direct billing for eligible plans with the following insurance companies:
If you are not sure if your plan qualifies, we can check it for you before purchase.

For Other Insurance Providers
If you have a different insurance provider, you will likely need to pay for your purchase upfront and then submit your receipt to your insurance company for reimbursement. We can help you with this process to make it as smooth as possible.
Estimates and Pre-Approval (Recommended)
If you have a non-direct billing insurance provider, we recommend sending an estimate for pre-approval before purchase. The insurance company reviews the estimate and advises whether the product may be covered under the policy.
Before preparing an estimate, we first need to decide which brace is most appropriate for your condition. This helps ensure that the estimate accurately reflects the product you plan to purchase.
Book a free consultation appointment: We’ll discuss your health concerns and recommend the best products for your specific needs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does GreenShield Canada cover Bauerfeind braces?
Coverage depends on your insurance policy and medical condition. Most plans require a physician’s prescription.
Can Feet And Up check my coverage?
Yes. For eligible GreenShield Canada plans, we can verify coverage and eligibility before submitting a claim.
What if my plan only covers part of the cost?
You will only be responsible for the portion that is not covered by your insurance plan.
Can I take my product home right away?
We keep a large selection of Bauerfeind braces and medical compression stockings in stock. If you already have a prescription, we can often complete your consultation, verify your GreenShield insurance coverage, and fit your product during the same appointment.
If your product is in stock and your coverage has been verified, you can usually take it home the same day. There is no need to wait for us to receive payment from your insurance company.
Does everyone qualify for direct billing?
No. It depends on your insurance provider, plan and coverage rules.
What if my plan is not eligible for direct billing?
You may still be able to submit a claim directly to your insurance company for reimbursement.
